Aim of the Latvian National Digital Library (LNDL) is to ensure availability of digitalised cultural heritage of the National Library of Latvia and its cooperation partners on the Internet. LNDL shall make stocks available to various groups of society thus facilitating comprehension of the Latvian culture, history, geography, economy and politics, as well as offers new research instruments for the scientists.

At the moment LNDL offers books, periodicals, maps and archive of Web sites. Until spring 2013 continuing development of the Digital Library picture, audio and video collections will be added that at the moment can be viewed on the NLL Web site “Digital library" (www.lnb.lv), as well as a digital library laboratory for support of the language study.

We have selected different colour for each type of contents to mark it out and differentiate from other resources. The selected colour is not random - it is related to the new building of the National Library of Latvia, where each floor has its own colour. The colour of the floor where reading-rooms of the map, picture, periodicals, etc. issues are located is given to digital reading-rooms of these issues.
